We recommend twice yearly dental exams to most of our patients. In some cases, we may need to see you more frequently, and, occasionally, if your teeth and gums are in great shape, we may only see you once a year. At your checkup, we do a lot more than polish your teeth. We remove potentially hazardous buildup from your teeth and under your gums, check carefully for cavities or any other abnormalities, and take x-rays to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy. Your gums are as crucial to your oral health as your teeth, and we can provide periodontal treatment as needed. If your gums need a little more care, we’re happy to refer you to one of our recommended specialists.
You know how important it is for adults to have regular dental checkups, but what about children? Kids can get cavities as soon as they have teeth. If you wait until your child is older to start regular dental checkups, they may already have cavities and tooth decay. It’s important for children to have regular fluoride treatments to strengthen enamel and help prevent cavities. Some orthodontic problems are treated more successfully at a younger age as well. A check up appointment is a good time for us to reinforce good dietary choices and evaluate brushing habits.
